Okay, so everyone has gone through this. Your video card can't handle what you want from it, so you buy a new one. Then that one can't handle the next thing, so you get another one. Over years you end up with video cards you don't want/can't use anymore.

That's where I am right now. I need to get get rid of some video cards. I considered eBay, but looking at how many old video cards they have listed with 0 bids, I'm not all too thrilled. As there are a lot of tech-savy people here (WAY above my level :) ), I figured I'd ask for advice here. Where's a good place/site to get some money for old video cards? Or maybe someone here wants them, or knows someone who knows someone who wants them, that's fine too. I just need to get rid of them!

I currently have floating around:

ATI RADEON 7000
ATI RADEON 9200
nVIDIA TNT
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
nVIDIA Geforce 6200 OC (BFG Tech) *current card-- will get rid of if I can get enough money from the other cards to offset the cost of a new card.

Not sure what I'll get for a new card. Looking at possibly the nVIDIA GeForce 6800 or higher. But, I'm not made of money, and my compy has PCI slots (no express). Any suggestions on what I should get next?

<! :#FF9900--> "color:#FF9900"><!--/ >PCI slots??? New motherboard and/or new computer would be my suggestion. With no AGP or PCI-Express slots upgrade options are slim. Anthony might be aware of some that I'm not. I haven't done a PCI graphics card since 96, and that was a Voodoo.

About getting rid of the cards, I think your collection is too old by this point. Aside from possibly giving them to charity for a tax write-off, I can't see much you'd get from them. I have a 5900 AGP and 6800 GT PCI-E, and I consider them to be worthless enough to keep around only for use as diagnostic cards. The trouble it would take to put them through the bidding stuff wouldn't be worth the $20 or so I could make off of them. Especially given the fact that there are now $100 or cheaper video cards than can best them both.

Wolfgang suggested that he knows a friend who might buy them for the parts, but other than that, I haven't got much. The 6200 and 5500 shouldn't be too old though, should they?

<! :#FF9900--> "color:#FF9900"><!--/ >Well, I currently have an 8800 GTS.. which is the latest generation, the 7-series was the last generation, which makes the 6200 and the 5500 the 3rd and 4th from latest generation. Useful to some, but those who would be upgrading can find cheap and potent alternatives in retail boxes. Unfortunately, except for Wolfgang's options or the charity option, I don't see much profit in it for you.<!--colorc--> <!--/colorc-->

Simply put if your computer does not even have an AGP slot its time for an upgade. PCI just will not cut it these days in fact it hasn't for a long while now. I mean they are moving to PCI-e 2.0 now.

PCI?!

Hey! I think those ATI Radeon 7000 and 9200 are calling me... My other computer needs an update because the X.org Server doesn't like my Voodoo 3000, and it's not thrilled by the integrated either...

And one of those might work really well for my parent's old piece of trash... I can finally give them all of their RAM :)

/me grumbles about stupid integrated gfx

Yeah, why do they even bother with integrated cards? I haven't had a single good game that works on an integrated card.

If you're interested Hoikas, PM me. I'd love to get rid of these things :).

I really have no delusions that I'll be able to get rid of the TNT. I bought that way, way back when Uru came out, thinking that would be enough to get me by (I knew NOTHING about video cards back then). Boy was I wrong!

Computer components go out of date too quickly for me . Seems like just when you get settled with your nice new thingamajig, something new comes out and you have to throw it out.

And holy cow, Firefox's dictionary actually recognizes thingamajig as an actual word. Sweet!

<! :#FF9900--> "color:#FF9900"><!--/ >Well Ken, it's because a large body of users simply don't game on their machines and those integrated graphics chipsets are cheap to make and usually of sufficient capacity to display much of the multimedia the internet presents. Having said that, I have no love for integrated graphics. I don't care if you can run URU on that kind of stuff... URU is a WHOLE 'nother experience with AA / AF, full textures, and high resolutions.... any game is. Thankfully, it doesn't take a $400 video card to do it. My friend just bought an $89 GeForce 7600 GT (PCI-Express . . . I think they had it mis-marked) that gets enough juice from the PCI-E slot (meaning no external power connections needed) and it manages to run his Guild Wars game at full resolution and with all detail settings maxed. It's a beautiful thing. <!--colorc--> <!--/colorc-->

PCI-Express cards aren't that bad.

Ah, but I only have a PCI slot, which I hear is not anything like a PCI-E slot.

I would be interested if the "nVIDIA Geforce 6200 OC" was for a AGP slot, or if "nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500" was pci that would be fine too.... Post the specs for the nVIDIA cards and I may buy them all off ya.
