Title: The Last Earbender
Hi, all.

It's out - the first official <a href="http://www.magiquest.com/media/html_files/mqonlinevideo.html" target="_blank">MagiQuest Online Trailer</a>.

Enjoy! As you can tell, Cyan's been rather busy for the last little while. Obviously, the worlds of MQO draw heavily on MOUL, but there are plenty of new elements, such as the spell-casting animations, integration with MaqiQuest video segments and NPCs, and so on. Testing has been huge fun, and it's great to see the trailer reflecting all that's been done so far.

Cheers,

Gryf

Looks great! Only thing I'd complain about is the stock-sounding adventure music.

They even pinched the MOUL dances by the looks. I must say it indeed does look like Cyan's work but it doesn't appeal. Just glad they are still around for MORE.

Well, it's not that they pinched the dances, so much as that they just left them in. Indeed, pretty much all of the old avvie behaviors are still there, along with the chat commands to invoke such actions as /sit, /afk... all the stuff we saw in MOUL. It's just been repurposed, and so far - perhaps because of the beta status - there is no "official" mention of avvie behaviors in the in-game tutorial. Maybe that will come later.

On the bright side, there's the hope that Open Uru will eventually benefit from lessons learned in MQO. There are differences between the two, to be sure, but Cyan's been hammering out bugs, particularly those affecting multiplayer, that could well find their way into Open Uru. Obviously, MQO isn't Uru Live. But MQO is providing the kind of development platform that MOUL would have been, had it lived.

Cheers,

Mowog

What's going to be fun is when MQO opens to the public, and we astonish newbies with all the things our avvies can do. ;)

MQO is intended to be a family game, similar to the real deal. So we're expecting a lot of kids in the Realms, and plenty of "How did you do that?!?" when we veterans do a /lookaround, /sit, /yawn, whatever. It should be huge fun.

Let's hope everybody will stay polite, but it's the uru community so I guess everybody will be extra nice to the kids :D

I hope they'll open it up to europe to, although I'm pretty sure they won't *sigh*

Wow, that wand animation is used for EVERYTHING. The acting is painful (even worse than Myst 4) and while a few of the worlds gave me a real Uru vibe.... that entire forest, with the exception of the large building with the windmill seen about half-way through, really seems.... just lame. I might give it a try for Cyan's sake, but I ain't sticking around for this one, I don't think. ESPECIALLY not with Star Trek Online in February and The Old Republic soon-ish.

Just my 2 cents.

I must say that the Twisted Woods are very nice when seen in-game. The realm is very much along the lines of the Garden Ages in Uru, albeit quite a bit larger. Plus, many of the trees, stones, and other furniture are climb-able...

A new element has recently been added to the Woods, and is still in work. All I can say is that it gets more Uru-like with every new build.

As for the acting, there's been much discussion on that front. The young actress you saw in the trailer has drawn much comment, pro and con. The actor who plays the other NPC is actually very good, and quite professional. BTW, the NPC segments and other cinematics are apparently pretty much what you'd see at a live MagiQuest facility. The idea is to have solid continuity between the live and virtual versions of MQ, but of course the online version provides many opportunities not available live.

The acting I don't have a problem with... it was pretty obvious what they were trying to go for, and while I don't think it quite worked (slipped a little into "Uncanny Valley" for me) I commend them for what they tried to do.

And I understand that the trailer didn't show much... like I said, over Christmas break I'll try out the demo and play with it, but yeah, I've got better things to spend money on right now..

Namely, the 80 dollar Star Trek Online collector's set.... complete with NextGen, DS9, and Mirror Universe uniforms for your crew, a Red Matter inducer from the newest movie, and a real life communicator badge of the new design in the game.

/drool.

I just want to quickly point out something,
It has the same character creator as URU, it has the same mouse as URU, it has the same Exit button as URU, it has the same character animations as in URU, it even fades the character when you mouseover him... just like in URU...

I know it's the same engine, but I still think it's funny that theres so many similarities.
