Title: The Last Earbender
Someone on the DRC forum recently mentioned There.com, an online getaway that seems to offer some of the same kinds of collaboration we've been enjoying in Until Uru. You join up (it's free), create an avvie, and socialize in a whole bunch of different ways. Looks like bags of fun. Here is a link to an info page with sample screens. And here is a sample movie.

Here's a quote from their home page:

"There" is an everyday hangout where you can have fun with your friends and meet new ones -- all in a lush 3D environment that's yours to build and explore!

And it doesn't look laggy at all (he said snidely). The avvies and landscapes are simpler than those in Uru, but still very attractive; and animations seem to flow very smoothly. Chat text shows up in cartoon-style dialog balloons, but with Skype in the background it would be even better, I think. You can walk, drive dune buggies, or fly with hoverboards or rocket packs. You can also join other avvies for card games like Spades. Looks like there may be a paintball option too. Wow, just noticed that you can build your own environments.

I'm sorely tempted!

Yeah a bunch of people fled to There after UruLive went down and started "rebuild" Uru There (hahaha bad pun )

I didnt see the point of going to a new online game and trying to make it something it could never be so didn't get interested in it.

I’ve been in There from time to time and I’ve had a lot of fun, particularly with some of the guys from Until URU; However I think its fair warning to say that you may find the human aspect in general can be more problematic, compared to Until URU. ;)

I went to THERE when uru live went down and even build uruish things but when UU came i did go to THERE less and less often and i have not been at all for months now.

For me THERE was a nice experience but i always had in mind that it was like a waiting place till i could go back in uru with my friends :)

There is nice.
I kept it just for fun. Used it a while, but not anymore. Mowog's post makes me wonder how it is now, so I will have a look again.

I play There every once in a while, when I'm not doing anything else. Sorta like my anti-boredom backup It's pretty fun, and there's so much stuff you can do, so I enjoy it :)

I've been in THERE for almost 2 weeks and I've become a bit addicted, especialy when meeting URU people there . BTW, I've designed a CCN mens baseball cap and mens jacket for THERE if anyone is intrested, I havn't submited them yet though...

Oh, and the premium account ($10) comes with voice and the ablity to save places, and the nice thing about THERE voice is that you can speak to each other whereever you are via group IM.

Stella -- is that a one-time fee, or a monthly payment?

It's a one time fee, it used to be a subscription for both the basic and premium accounts, but I found out two weeks ago that the basic account is now free and the premium account is just a one off payment, which I think is well worth it. I was able to reactivate an old trial account (which used to only last for 3 days) and upgraded it to premium using PayPal (I don't have a credit card). I must say I think it's worth it :). The strange thing is that I find it much more comfortable to use voice in There then in cavern. Although they are entialy differnt enviroments.

Ok, I'll be truthful. Haven't been THERE yet, still, because I'm enjoying the HERE in D'mala and seeing all the excitement. When things quiet down, maybe I'll go THERE.
